Year in Review 2012

A look at the many different things that happened in 2012.

After such a great success with an article I wrote back in 2008 called 'How To Refresh Your Computers Memory', which is still continuing to gain popularity, this year I wrote another piece on PC health called 'How to Prevent Your Desktop PC From Over Heating'. Though it didn't fare as well as the other one, it has still attracted the attention of those with computer problems. To find out more follow the link below:

The beginning of the year was a great time for making home-made movie trailers especially as it was the coldest time of the year and the theme of the moment was sci-fi orientated. I filmed segments of things and places and put them together in one trailer and added music to the mix. It was later put on YouTube for all to see. The article eplains in a few details how to construct a movie trailer without too much effort. For more info visit the link below:

Earlier this year, movie director, James Cameron, who created Avatar, was said to be making plans for a sequel to the hit movie. This Article highlights ideas that may become a part of the finished version. Next year will highlight more info of what we are expected to see from the sequel. For more info, visit the link below:

Remembering The Olympic London Parade

A time when the nation became one mind, one body and one voice.

From the Strand to Buckingham Palace

Ollie and Ellie, amongst others who did well in the Olympics, were praised by the public as they travelled on coach tops. Noise from crowd continued throughout.

The Olympians used banners with words of gratitude to thank the crown and the games makers. Not all the athletes were present, but over 700 were.

21 floats past through the streets of London. David Cameron, Boris Johnson, Princess Ann and Prince Edward were all present at the parade. The floats went up the mall and reached Buckingham Palace at 3.30pm.

A large widescreen was set up outside Buckingham Palace for all to see and soak up the atmosphere.

An aircraft flew low (also known as a fly pass) above  the crowd. Four helicopters from the armed forces also flew over head. The noise was immense. Then an aircraft draped in the colours of gold, white and red, few past with the words 'Thank you' printed on the belly.

Finally, the red arrows with their blue, white and red clouds of smoke, flew by. To top of the event, there was song and dance from groups such as The Pet Shop Boys who sang such classics as West End Girls and Go West which were fitting song tributes for the event.

As we have approached that time again where the heat of the sun warms no more, the leaves of the tree begin to fall and wither, and the thick layered coats are on the backs of everyone around, not only do we realise that winter is just around the corner, but so is Halloween. Upon the naked trees that stretch forth their branches, frost begins to set in. Though the evening is young, the moon is full.

The sky is blackened with a sprinkle of stars glistening in it's presents. Masks of creatures, monsters and aliens are worn by children and adults alike. Trick or treat fever is unspared by the children, but no such favour for the 'trick or treating' adults who knock on the door of the unsuspecting home owner.  They are shooed away by the annoyed resident who rages his broom against them as they flee noisily down the quiet, dark but partially lit road with just the mere sound of a startled screaming stray cat rustling amongst the rubbish bins.

The man goes back inside. His mobile phone that sits upon the living room table begins to vibrate as it rings. He picks it up and sees the words 'Private number' - he answers, but the person on the other end, hangs up. Within the same moment, he notices that his phone has no background image. He realises he has never decorated or personalized it. The device that he so relies upon, is as plain as his rugged, matte green carpet that is laid upon the floor throughout his home. He suddenly recognises that it is now time to boost the enjoyment of his mobile device.

And so can you. The wallpapers below are available for desktops and laptops as well as iPhones and Samsung phones. All resolutions are noted under each image. If you don't see the size you want, please specify in the comments section below.

These latest themes are based on things to do with space and the latest technology in home cinema, 3D t.v. As the wold leaders are making plans for trips around the moon and other areas of space for tourist, there is no telling what you'll find while floating out amonst the stars. We've all heard of the Milky Way, well the first few wallpaper images are based on things that that may be found in the deepest and uncharted parts of our galaxy. Now that we have a robot on the surface of Mars, and I'm sure there's going to be plenty more, who knows what untold secrets of the universe will be found.

The television technology has come a long way since the black and white box many decades ago. Today, 3D in high definition is the thing that is sweeping the market. What's more, if you think the HD you have in your home is as good as it gets, then you'd be wrong. Samsung have just recently revealed the latest 80inch screen for your living room. The clarification is 4 times greater than the current HD tv's that are on the market. However, though this is appetizing, many of us are already impressed with the realistic 3D technology that's out there. This is a major step up from the 80's red, blue and green feature of those days. So the following wallpaper theme are available in those colours - and no, you don't need 3D glasses to view them.
All images are in 720 x 400 resolution.

There are many things out there to download from the net for your computer and other devices such as the mobile phone. With the Smart phones, the options of things that you can do with it are almost countless. From surfing the Internet to watching Live Television on the go. Many people are now using these phones for the web as much as they do using a desktop or laptop computer.

However, one of the things that seems to stay the same is the enjoyment of still being able to change your background images or wallpapers. As lots more wallpapers are been created, more and more people have continued to download images of their choice. The interest for wallpaper or background images as they are sometimes called, could be generated from the fact that just like decorating your home from time to time, the computer and mobile phone also needs a makeover especially in order to suit your mood.

What's interesting is that many wallpapers are very simple looking layouts and do not necessarily need to be big in graphic effects to gain the appeal - so long as they fit to the device or computer screen being used.

Below are a selection of wallpapers available for pc's and mobile phones with their respective sizes indicated. If you do not see the size you are looking for please specify in the comment section or leave a comment on my Flickr page at MJ's Photo Pix

London Olympic opening ceremony

The ceremony of the London Olympics started and ended in spectacular fashion. Much of the beginning was related to the industrial revolution of post war England. Chimney's rose from the ground in amazing form. Bicycle riders work brightly illuminated wings that glowed beautifully in the dark..The queen had somewhat of a starring role along side Daniel Craig who repised his James Bond character sent to protect her majesty. She along with Daniel, jumped out of a helicopter and into the stadium with british coloured parachute's. Rowan Atkinson played his part as the comical Mr Bean who acted out the part of the famous running scene in 'Chariots Of Fire'. Towards the end, David Beckham travelled in a multi-coloured illuminating speed boat which he drove most of the way, that carried the torch through the River Thames to the Olympic venue. From there he past the torch to Sir Steve Redgrave who ran into the stadium and past it on to several young aspiring olympians who then went on to light the actual coldron. This was and outstanding event that was master crafted by british movie director, Danny Boyle. It's believed that the event was watched by 1 billion people world wide.

Escape From London

Escape From London
Six Epic reasons to evacuate the most popular city in the world. If other cities surrounding the capital are experiencing floods from heavy rainfall, then what’s in-store for London?

London has escaped many natural disasters for centuries. The last one that comes to mind is the hurricane of 1987 that battered the country from left to right - I will get back to this in a moment.  However, much of everything else on such a scale, tends to happen on the outskirts and far afield of London. So why does this city go untouched of natural disasters? Is there something much bigger upon the horizon for the capital? This article looks at people's ideas of what could be London's next big disaster. It might seem a bit odd, far-fetched or even weird, but no matter how ridiculous it may seem, these videos are based on actual ideas from ordinary people. It's worth mentioning that it was a well known UK weather man called Michael Fish, that dismissed rumors of a hurricane the night before the morning it happened. So though some things may seem too good to be true, it doesn't mean it can't happen.

Monster In The River Thames
Now we've all heard of the Lochness Monster, but never actually seen him. Even with our hi-tech gadgets, we can't seem to find the creature, but it's never stopped the locals in Scotland from believing in the beast. So what if a monster from beneath the River Thames was to emerge to the surface, would that whet our appetite into believing that the monster of Lochness exist? After witnessing something as epic as that, I think it's fair to say you wouldn't be blamed for believing in anything.

Meteors In London
In the presents of Astronomers, there's a lot of talk of the possibility of Meteors entering the Earths atmosphere and destroying all life in the world depending on the size of it and the ferocity it's moving at. There are many reports of large fireballs in the sky and discoveries of these large rocks in many parts of the world, but not in London. The city is yet to see a fireball light up the night, but if there was one of a particular size, it could cause a major problem that could send shock waves around the world. So let's count ourselves lucky while we still can.

Magma Rising
There's been a number of disaster movie made in Hollywood to do with volcano eruptions and flowing lava. These movies have often got the formula right. Meaning even though lava flows from an erupted volcano, that is not it's only path of outburst. In fact it is very possible for ground many miles away from a volcano, like the suburbs or inner cities to break open and cause a serious emergency. Just the very heat of Magma fluid alone would be enough to create a fire disaster. The streets of London would look very different if Magma were to spread across the city.

Mezma Rising
The Mezma Monster, another creature of the underworld. The Half Rat, half fish beast that's live for thousands of years in a cave deep beneath the famous River Thames in a world that no man has ever set eyes upon. Feeding on fish, ducks and squid, this creature is the reason why there is very little life in the Thames. Well, that could be the case, but only assuming that this Monster actually exists. Here's the marker, if Dinosaurs existed, couldn't this monster exist as well? Almost every day we discover new and untold creatures and animals in different parts of the world. But if we could discover that there is a Rat Fish in the River Thames, wouldn't that just be Mezma-rising?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vgchh9cZ_Cg

Big Spiders In Little London
A regular sized Daddy Long-legs running all over your sofa is enough for any one to evacuate their city, so what says extra large spiders and more lava to add to that problem. Large spiders is not a new concept as their are enormous eight-legged freaks in may jungles and rainforest's around the world. Like the Goliath spider that eats bird for it's supper. It's around the size of a grown man's hand. Now what can be more frightening than that? How about a 4ft spider that is as quick and agile as a regular spider. I guess running from that while jumping over large lava filled cracks in the ground is no easy feat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHLz93JGHAc

Serp Rising
The story of the medieval serpent has been passed down from generation to generation. In the beginning, the revelation of the creature happened on an ordinary day and unexpectedly. As the local villagers went about their normal lives, the floor rumbled and shook, then the serpent burst up through the ground and caused much destruction. Only a handful survived the moment and lived to tell the story. They named the creature, Serp 'The Destroyer'. Even though many of those who never saw the creature disbelieved of its existence, those who witness it, the story tellers, made sure that the experience they endured was never forgotten - but it was. Now the creature that laid dormant under ground for so many centuries has once again raised it's head, but this time, above the Tower of London.

Well, there you have it, six different possible natural disaster ideas that people believe could happen in London. So, if after all this, London still manages to avoids a flooding, a hurricane and all the other things that happen in this world, just continue keeping your eyes open because you never know, there just might be a Mezma Monster on your street.

The Commodore 64

Remember those computers from the 80's? Well, we take a look at the Commodore 64 and some of the games that were available for it. So without further ado, I present to you one of the highly respected computers of its generation, the Commodore 64!
The 80's was an interesting era and one to be remembered. This was the time where computer games were a lot more appealing than the 70's 2-bit tennis game. That's because the graphics were better and the stages of game play was a lot more engaging.
Along with the Spectrum, Sinclair, Atari and Amstrad, the Commodore 64 was also a popular PC. Many of the games were on cassette tapes which you had to load up using the seperate tape recorder that you plug to the PC. Depending on the amount of data for each game per tape, you can find yourself waiting for 5 to 20mins for a game to load up. Often the case it was always worth the wait.

The first joysticks made for the 8bit gaming machines had only one trigger button. The image you see below was one of the first to have two. These were commonly known as 'Quickshot'. They were made to give you a more realistic experience especially when playing games such as Space Invaders, Infiltrator and Zynaps. The joystick had ridges so you could grip the controls during fast playability. Underneath the joystick were four suction cups to sick it down to a table or something of a similar enamel material. The commodore 64 aloud up to 2 joysticks unlike the multi-play we see today.

When it came to games, there were a huge selection of genre's to choose from. 'Shoot 'em ups' and 'Beat 'em ups' were the most popular with such games as The Exploding Fist and Rambo. Other titles came into the frame a little later like 'Red Heat' and 'Ghostbusters 2' just to name a few, making the Commodore 64 a machine to be reckoned with. And with the help of better reliability with loading games, this further expanded the popularity of the computer. Even Aliens was released for the '64 which was the first game to put you right in the action as you travel down the many corridors.

Technology for computers and their games got better. In the ninties, two 16-bit gaming machines were released on the market - the Sega Mega Drive and the Super Nintendo. They were double the graphics, and games loaded in seconds of inserting the cartridges. This meant that all the 8-bit computers had met their match and were surpassed into the history books. Yet we remember them because they were the first to change the way people play games...forever.

Sega Megadrive classic console

The Sega Megadrive is one of the best gaming machine from the 90's. With it's 16Bit graphics and smooth game playability, this was one of the all time best selling consoles of its era. Those of you who were lucky enough to get your hands on it even if it was for a few minute, know exactly how the Mega Drive change the way we look at games as well as play them. Iconic games such as Sonic The Hedgehog, Streets Of Rage 2 and Dessert Strike were just a few of the many addictive game that were around. So why not sit back, empty your minds and take a step back to when all that mattered was whats strategy you were going to use to get to the boss stages of your favourite game.

Welcome back to the original 16bit graphic gaming machine. This article will take you back to the time of the best games console and its games, of the 90's. Let's take a look at what really started the benchmark in the way of enjoyment and playability in games history.

Back in the early 90's kids and young adult were going crazy for the Sega Megadrive. This was dubbed the Ultimate 16 Bit machine.

A selection of the games that were available in its early days were, Alex Kid, Rocket Knight Adventures, Talespin, European Club Soccer, Wrestle War, Wrestlemania and Chiki, Chiki Boys.

One of the most popular games for the Mega Drive was Sonic The HedgeHog - a fast-paced moving platform game that captivated the imagination of many fans. For those who were more into the 'Beat 'em up' games, Streets Of Rage was a high recommendation and it was also a big hit on the market, but not as big as its hugely successful predecessor, 'Streets Of Rage 2 which had new characters joining with the original ones and contained may new fighting techniques and other features. A lot of the games for the 16Bit console were enjoyable and playable too with upbeat soundtracks and energetic background music to get the tempo moving.

Playing against the computer, as an opponent when there's no one else to play against was always a great way to test your skills against the machine and great practice for when it's time to play against someone. That being said, 2 or even 4 player mode when you had your friends around, using the Multiplayer adaptor, was a chance to see who was truly the best.

As game players became more experienced at these games, they demanded more. So new types of joypads were created for better competitiveness. Unlike the regular 3 action button pads, the new pads had 6 buttons with automatic action for rapid fire. These worked well with games known as 'Shoot 'em ups' such as Desert Strike, Space Harrier, Rambo 3, Urban Strike and Mercs - just to name a few. On some joypads, there was a switch situated at the back of it where it enabled you to slow down the action for a more dramatic feel.

With the Mega Drives popularity and fans craving for the next newest game installment, it was important to get as much information out to the gamers as possible. This meant magazine's from different sources and territories, but all who were in the know about the world of Sega, were being distributed to and sold from Newsagents and bookstore alike. Packed in these magazine's were details of all the latest releases, best selling games and which games were fairing better than others. A section often called the 'Cheats' section were for those having difficulty getting through a particualr game. This part provided directions, hints and tips on how to get from one stage to another and even how to let your character gain unlimited life so you called reach the boss stages with total invincibility.

The Sega Mega Drive is one of the best memories since the computer gaming generation began. There are many people in the world who either owned one or its rival/challenger, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or otherwise known as the SNES. Many verbal disputes over which of these amazing consoles were the best, was always the focus of the subject matter, but one thing for sure, the Arcade game revolution, was put firmly in the homes of the gamers... Forever.

Avatar 2 review

With the success of the first movie, the release of the second will be in our cinemas soon.

James Cameron's box office master piece, 'Avatar' has a sequel which will be in our cinema's soon. New creatures and characters are all on the menu for this brand new installment.

There have been a small number of sci-fi, action/adventure movies that have truly captured the hearts and minds of audiences. Movies of epic proportion such as The Matrix trilogy, Lord Of The Rings trilogy and the Harry Potter series, have all delivered some spectacular, cutting-edge special effects and character originality. And because of this, it has opened up a flood gate of new and imaginative ideas for further projects.

James Cameron's 'Avatar', which was released in 2009, was a new wave of movie magic and direction. The success of this movie brought in $2 Billion which surpassed Cameron's other blockbuster, 'Titanic'.

Avatar has become such a classic, that there are drawings and photos created by fans of the movie all over the internet paying homage to such a well thought out movie. Since the first film, there as been an out-cry for a sequel. James Cameron has heard the cries and a second part to the movie is on its way and there is even talk of a third.

It's believed that in the second installment, the story will not only be taking place in the rain-forest, but will involve oceans and possibly species of the ocean world. Things may take place in a different world from the first movie.

Some of the same actors from the original movie are prepared to be a part of the new project and there is likely to be others joining the crew to add additional flavour to the adventure.

With even more CGI technology to wet our appetite, it'll be quite interesting to see what new creatures and characters the team will think up next for the sequel.

All images are fan based artwork inspired by the 'Avatar' movie and are not the actual characters from the movie or for the sequel.

How to Create a Movie Trailer

Have you ever wanted to make your own movie trailer, but not really had the money or resources to do so? Well believe it or not just having a cheap video camera, a video and picture software is all you need. Plus a creative imagination to help put the idea together.

Once you've created an idea for a trailer, use your camera to take photos and capture video of places, events and even people who don't mind being seen.

If you are shooting to create a romantic trailer, I would recommend panning your video camera across from left to right slowly and steadily. Making sure to capture object like flowers, blue skies and waterfalls or fountains.

If however, you want to create a horror scene, then filming night-time scenes of quiet streets and abondoned areas and buildings will help to create that atmospheric feeling. Using your camera during the halloween season will encourage intensity in your shots.

When you are satisfied with your shots, load them up on you chosen media software and edit out the thing you don't want against the things you want to keep. From the software, add some special effects and titles to your project and if, unlike me, you're good with musical instuments, then create a sountrack and add it to the trailer. You can also use audio to record your voice to narate your trailer or ask someone to do the voice for you.

It's also worth creating a movie poster for your project like the one featured above. There are many tutorials online that can show you how to create an interesting movie-like poster.

Once you have completed your trailer and you are satified with the end result, show off with it to friends, family or even members of the public through social network sites.

Here's one I created earlier. It's called 'The Tomanekians: Day Of The Invaders' I'm not great with music so it may sound a little out of sync. Enjoy!

How To Prevent Your Desktop PC From Overheating

Does your computer prompt you with messages such as CPU over temperature? Or while using your PC, can you hear the sound of your fan working harder than it should? If so, then this is a sign that some very simple maintenence needs to be done. This article will show you how and will help to keep your computer running smoothly during operation. It contains some very simple instructions on how to do this.

Inside every desktop computer is a CPU (Central Processing Unit). On top of this device is a fan that keeps the CPU cool while you use the computer. However, over some time the fan and the grills below it will get clogged with dust and dirt. The only way to remove this is to manually extract it from inside the computer.
Below are the instructions on how to do it.

1) Turn off your PC and unplug it from the mains.
2) Unlock and take off the side cover of the unit.

The inside should look something like this. In this display many of the components have been taken out with the exception of the fan.

3) Using the correct screwdriver that fits the screw heads, remove all four screws.
4) Carefully lift the fan out of place and clean the rota blades with a dry cloth until clear of dust and dirt.
5) Do the same for the grills by gently brushing away and blowing out the dust.
6) Once this is done, replace the fan back on top of the grills and reinsert the four screws.
7) Put the cover back onto the unit securely and turn on the PC.

Outcome: Your computer should now be whisper quiet, and running smoothly without the interferring sound of the fan. There should not be anymore CPU messages popping up on your screen. However, if there is, then you may need to refresh your memory (DIMM modules) or invest in new memory for your system. These are inexpensive nowadays, but that may also depend on the type of memory your computer needs.
